Pastor Terrell L. Murphy is a native of Granite Falls, North Carolina and an Appalachian State
University graduate where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Communications. His
corporate work experience includes over 11 years with Hormel Foods Corporation as a sales
merchandiser, sales representative, and territory manager in Charlotte and Raleigh, North
Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia.
The impact of the College Campus Ministry at New Birth focused primarily on the Atlanta
University Center, consisting of Clark-Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morris Brown
College, and Spelman College.
In August 2000, Pastor Murphy was appointed Director of Youth Development to oversee the
spiritual development of youth in the following areas: nursery, children's ministry, junior
high school, high school, and college ministry. While serving in this capacity, he was also
chaplain for the Southwest Dekalb and Clark Atlanta University football teams.
Following his appointment as elder, Pastor Murphy was promoted to the division of Church
Development-Church Planting in 2002. In March 2003, Bishop Long planted New Birth-Charlotte,
the first church plant for New Birth outside of Georgia. Pastor Murphy was appointed senior
pastor of New Birth-Charlotte located in Huntersville, North Carolina, a thriving Charlotte
suburb. The church currently impacts the Charlotte metropolitan area and has become a
flourishing worship center.
On April 18, 2004, Bishop Eddie L. Long officially installed Pastor Murphy as Pastor of New Birth-Charlotte. Since this time, Pastor Murphy has been delighted with New Birth-Charlotte's
ministry functions as they continue to evolve into a significant component of the New Birth
structure. Those fortunate enough to work alongside him have been arms to undergird the
progressive ministry movement.
